Dollar Tree Witch Sign

If the Dollar Tree is not on your list of shopping for seasonal decor, then you are missing out my friend. They have a great selection of Halloween signs out this year and the possibilities of what to do with them are endless. I recently shared a blog post showing all of the goodies that my store had out. You can take a look here to see what I am talking about. The wood cut out selection has really increased this year and let me tell you, they really have some cool ones out. I came across this Dollar Tree Witch Sign and decided to grab it and see what I could do with it.

Halloween is definitely my favorite time of the year and any kind of Halloween project makes me happy! What I like about the blank wood signs is that you have a chance to get creative and make them your own style. If you have ever wondered how to paint one of these signs, I got you covered!

Here is what you will need for this project:

  • dollar tree witch and cauldron sign
  • glitter vase filler
  • black, purple, white and gray paint
  • ribbon
  • 11×13 canvas from the dollar tree
  • scrapbook paper
  • mod podge
  • glue gun

Instructions:

I first began by painting the cauldron, her hat and dress black.

Painting a dollar tree witch sign green and black

For her face, I chose to go with the color Moss in Waverly Chalk Paint. It is the perfect green for a witch!

Next, was to figure out her hair. This part happens in a couple of steps. I painted the base of her hair gray. While it was still wet, I added in some black to give it dimension.

Using gray and black paint to look like hair for a witch.

I added to warts on her nose with some brown paint.

Adding purple ribbon to the hat of a dollar tree witch sign

This purple glitter ribbon was perfect to decorate her hat.

Using orange and green vase filler on the top of a wood cauldron to create the look of bubbles

To create the look of her bubbling magic potion, I took the vase filler and hot glued it on top of the cauldron.

Using a chalk writer to write the words Hocus Pocus onto a dollar tree witch sign

I wrote “HOCUS POCUS” on the cauldron with a chalk writer from the Dollar Tree to finish it off.

To create a base for the Witch sign, I took a 11×13 canvas that I had from the Dollar Tree and some scrapbook paper. I picked the scrapbook paper up over at Hobby Lobby. It definitely was giving me Disneyland Haunted Mansion wallpaper vibes. Can you see it too? I applied the paper to the canvas with mod podge.

Next, I hot glued the witch to the canvas. I added some purple paint to her dress for added dimension and the spider to her hat. That is all there is to it. I just love her and all of her spookiness!
