Diy Halloween Book of Spells

Halloween is my favorite time of the year! It marks the beginning of all of the Holidays coming our way. Ever since I was little, there has just been something about Halloween that has intrigued me. The spookiness, the smells, the Fall weather and seeing kids in their creative costumes is the best!! Pretty much everything about the season is amazing. I love to create new Halloween decor every year and this year is no exception. I took an old book and decided to turn it into a diy Halloween Book of Spells. Let me show you how you can create one too, in just a few simple steps.

A book with a hard cover definitely works best. If you don’t have one, check out your local thrift stores. They are always stocked with a ton of books and you can find them anywhere from 25 cents to a dollar. I chose this one because I really liked the thickness of it and the detail on the cover.

Here is what you will need for this project:

  • Hard Cover Book
  • Black Paint
  • Glue gun
  • Ribbon
  • Small Dollar Tree Halloween Sign
  • Paint brush

Let’s get started!

Painting an old book cover black

You will first begin by painting the front, back and spine of your book black.

Two small halloween signs from the Dollar Tree.

I found these small Halloween Signs over at the Dollar Tree. They are a great deal because you get two for a dollar! I grabbed the “trick or treat” sign to use for this project.

Hot gluing a dollar tree trick or treat sign onto a painted black book.

Just simply hot glue it on to the top of the book. To create a little dimension, I took my glue gun and traced around the perimeter of the sign.

Once the glue is dry, go over it with some black paint to help it blend in with the book.

For the next step, take your glue gun and write out the words, “book of spells” with the hot glue. This is so simple and creates such a cool look. In addition, it saves you money because you really don’t have to purchase special lettering. Sounds like a win for me! What about you?

Using a paintbrush to add gold shimmer eye powder onto words made of out hot glue on the side of a book.

To help the words pop and stand out, go digging through your make up stash! I found some old eye shadow in gold and brushed it over the glue, as well as on the book. It worked perfectly and what’s even better, is that it didn’t cost me anything!

Add some ribbon along the side and a small bow with a spider to add some extra decor. Get creative with what you have and have fun doing it!

I hope you all enjoyed this project. It really is a fun one to do because it really allows you to get creative. I will definitely be making another one. This project cost only a few dollars to make and looks so cute with my Halloween decor. Do you think you will make a diy Halloween Book of Spells too? Leave a comment and let me know.
