rustic wood sconce using scrap wood and a canning jar with lavender plant in it.

diy rustic wall sconce

I was going through my shed the other day and came across a bunch of canning jars. I didn’t even know that I had them! I’m starting to think that I have a bit of a stash problem. 😳 Needless to say, I was pleasantly surprised! I was recently browsing on Pinterest and saw some wall sconces that I wanted to make. When I saw these canning jars I thought to myself… Hey these will be perfect! So…. I grabbed a jar and a scrap piece of wood and got busy making a diy rustic wall sconce.

Trust me when I tell you that these are so easy to make and they will look so cute wherever you decide to place them. For me, I’m going to put these in my yard for some rustic decor. They will be the perfect Spring addition to the outside of my crafty shed.

Here is what you will need for this project:

I have a good supply of scrap wood in my yard that I keep handy for crafts. This one was the perfect size that I needed. It’s a 1×5 and roughly 1.5 ft long. I began by dry brushing it white. Dry brushing is a painting technique where you have a little bit of paint on your brush and you simply paint it on with a light hand.

When it was dry, I flipped it over to make a hanger. Grabbing my drill, I attached some screws to the top corners of the wood. Next, I used some wire that I had on hand and wrapped it around the screws.

Next up, I took the copper hanger tape and measured out how much I needed. This stuff is bendable and is very easy to work with. I shaped it around the canning jar and attached it with screws. I love the rustic look that it gives to the project.

After I screwed the jar on, it looked a little plain. I decided to take it apart and add some jute twine to the top. Is it me or does the jute twine just make everything look a little better? The stuff is magic! 😀

That’s all there is to it! I added some fake lavendar florals to mine for Spring. Sadly, I am not a green thumb kinda gal as I tend to kill all the plants! That’s just not an area that the Lord blessed me in. 🤷‍♀️
