DIY DOLLAR TREE CLOCHE

I have always been a bit obsessed with cloches, I just think they are so beautiful. They are fun and easy to decorate with. However, they can be quite expensive if you want to buy one. You all know that I’m all about decorating on a budget, so of course I had to figure out how to diy one that fit within mine. So, off to one of my favorite place to go for crafting, THE DOLLAR TREE! There are so many things there to make any type of cloche that you want to make. The possibilities are endless! Here are a few things that I came up with for this DIY Dollar Tree Cloche.

SUPPLIES:

LET’S GET STARTED!!

First, begin by spray painting the wire basket and candlestick holder. I used Rust-oleum spray paint in Espresso Brown. It took me about 2 coats to cover them completely. I let them dry for about an hour outside.

On to painting the silver platter. I used Rust-oleum Linen white chalk paint to paint mine. It adhered to the plate pretty good. It took roughly 3 coats to get a decent coverage. This will be just the base color, as we are going to give it a weathered and distressed look.

Next, you will need to grab the antique wax. I used a paint brush to apply it very lightly over the edges of the platter. You can see all of that yummy detail coming through!

This part is where you can really have some fun and play around with the antique wax. There really is no right or wrong way to do this. It is strictly up to you to get creative with how you want it to look. I applied mine randomly all over the plate and used a paper towel to rub it in.

Next, grab your green paint and apply it with a palette knife in various spots. You want to create the look of it being weathered and chippy. The key to this technique is not having a lot of paint on your palette knife. You don’t want the paint to just look like globs. Think of it as looking as if it is chipped paint.

To protect all of your hard work, you will definitely want to seal it the paint. I am using Folk Art Wax to seal it. I just simply applied it using a wadded up paper towel.

Now let’s put it all together!

To attach the plate to the candlestick, I used hot glue. However, if you want a more permanent hold, I would recommend E6000 in addition to the hot glue.

By the way, how beautiful is this knob that I got on clearance at Hobby Lobby? I think I paid $1.00 for it! Always check the clearance aisles for knobs for great deals. I always make sure to pick up a few when I find them.

The wire basket makes it super easy to just screw it right on.

Now, just place the basket right on top of the platter and add whatever you like on the inside.

I added some spanish moss and these little eggs with sayings that I already had in my stash. I can’t wait to change it up for the seasons!

How beautiful did this turn out? No one would ever know that this was made with a few things from the Dollar Tree! It looks like something that you would’ve paid a lot of money for at a boutique.
