Diy Owl sign hanging from a tree using a heart cut out as the body, wood rounds with googly eyes, wood biscuits as the feathers and a rock for the beak.

Wood Owl Sign

Let me just start by saying that this project is a real hoot! Sorry, I couldn’t help myself! 😂 Lately, I’ve been getting requests to do more outdoor garden projects for the Spring and Summer season. I was going through my craft stash the other day trying my best to come up with a craft with things that I already have. Lord knows, that I do not need any more trips to the Dollar Tree anytime soon! My craft shed is starting to look like an extension of one already! I came across a few supplies that I could use to make a cute wood owl sign. It turned out so cute and I’m super excited to share it with you!

This craft is not only cute, but really easy to make. That’s right up my alley…how about you?

Here is what you will need:

Let’s get started!

You will want to first begin by staining the wood heart with Waverly antique wax. I used a baby wipe to apply it. If you do not have the antique wax, you can use watered down brown paint in place of it.

Next, you will hot glue the wood rounds onto the top of the heart for the base of the eyes.

I grabbed a rock from my yard and used it as a beak and used hot glue to apply it.

If you haven’t used wood biscuits for craft projects yet, let me apologize ahead of time…. You just might become hooked on them. They are great for crafting and there are so many things that you can use them for. We are going to use them as feathers for the owl.

Next step is to start placing the wood biscuits on the heart. I did small sections at a time and overlapped them as I went down. You will want to secure them with hot glue. TIP: Draw two curved lines down the center to help make equal sections.

Now that the feathers are all in place, grab the Waverly Antique Wax and stain the biscuits.

I wanted the center part of the body to stand out a little more, so I lightly brushed on white paint down the middle. Once it was dry, I applied the Waverly Antique Wax over the white paint.

For the final step, glue on the googly eyes and you’re done!

Seriously, how cute is this little guy?

I just love how it turned out and he looks really cute hanging in my Olive tree in the backyard. He is the like our little welcome owl greeting guests when they come outside.

Where will you hang yours?
