Diy Large Wood Carrots

If you’re looking for a FUN, EASY and AFFORDABLE craft these diy large wood carrots are the perfect project! They make the best accent pieces for your Spring and Easter decor.

Carrots seem to be so popular these days and are so fun to decorate with. You can make a carrot out of just about anything! The best part about these carrots is that you can leave them up after Easter and tie them in with your Spring decorations. My husband has a garden and I plan on re-purposing mine and using them as garden decor through out the season.

Here is what you’ll need:

  • 1 piece of 4×4 1/4″ plywood
  • Jigsaw
  • palm sander or sand paper
  • orange paint
  • brown paint
  • paintbrush
  • Dollar Tree onion grass
  • Glue gun

Let’s get started!

You’ll start by cutting the 4 x 4 piece of plywood in half with a Jigsaw. This will make it easier to work with. You will be able to get a total of 3 carrots out of this project. One large carrot and two smaller ones. Using a sharpie or pencil, you will free hand draw out your carrot shape onto the plywood.

Once you have your shape drawn out, you will cut it out with the jigsaw.

Here is what you should end up with. The larger one stands 4ft. tall and roughly 2 ft wide at the widest part. The smaller ones are 2ft tall. Mine are chubby carrots. Feel free to make yours skinnier if you’d like. 😀

Next, you will need to grab your palm sander or sandpaper and smooth them out. Make sure to pay close attention to the edges and sides.

Now, it’s time to paint! I used orange spray paint on the first one and ended up running out of it. Thankfully, I had left over orange paint from a previous project and ended up using it. Any orange paint will do.

I ended up taking my palm sander around the edges of the carrots and distressed them up a bit.

Let’s make them look like a carrot!

Grabbing your brown paint and paint brush, you will drawn random lines on your carrots to create the veins and wrinkles. I’m not sure if that’s the technical term, but I think you get what I’m saying! Continue this process on all three pieces.

I found this Onion Grass over at the Dollar Tree and thought that it would be PERFECT for the green stems at the top of the carrot.

Using your glue gun, put some glue onto the back of the carrot and place the onion grass on top. A staple gun would work well too! Flip them over and that’s all there is to it!

Aren’t they the cutest? I am seriously obsessed with how they turned out! They make the perfect addition to my front porch decor! They are exactly the huge statement piece that I was looking for.
