Hi friends! I’m a super excited to share with you this adorable diy dollar tree watermelon. Watermelon decor is so popular right now and it’s super fun to decorate with for Summer! It’s bright and cheery and just puts a smile on my face when I see it. It’s a pretty simple craft to do and it will make the perfect addition to your Summer decor!
I will mention, that this craft will have you digging through your Easter supplies for something! Can you guess what it will be?
HERE IS WHAT YOU WILL NEED:
- Dollar Tree Large Plastic Egg.
- red, green, white and black paint.
- Glue gun
- Ribbon
LET’S GET STARTED!
Begin by painting half of the egg green and the other half red. I used Waverly Chalk paint and it took me about 3 coats of each to get a decent coverage.
If you like a sharp, clean line I would suggest taping the sections off. I wanted mine to look organic and have soft edges.
Next, you will grab a lighter shade of green or mix your own with your green and white paint. Make lines going down the existing green paint to create the look of the veins on a watermelon.
Moving on to the top part, add some small lines with your black paint to create the seeds.
I decided to paint the words, “Sweet Summertime” on my watermelon with white paint. I am not the best at free hand writing, but I think it turned out decent, right? 🤷♀️
Now, just add some ribbon and a bow with the glue gun to finish it off!
Hint: I applied the ribbon over where the egg splits in half to help secure it.
That’s all there is to it!
I must say that I LOVE how this little diy dollar tree Watermelon turned out!! I hope this project showed you how easy it is to repurpose decor from previous seasons and turn them into something new.
