Upcycle a Dollar Tree Frame into Stunning Holiday Decor

Grab these vintage looking picture frames from the Dollar Tree to transform them into beautiful holiday inspired home decor. Upcycling is a great way to repurpose everyday items into something beautiful. A simple frame from the Dollar Tree is one of the most versatile and affordable items you can use. With a little bit of creativity, you can transform these frames into stunning home decor pieces. They will look much more expensive than what they are. Here are a few ideas that I came up with to get you started.

Supplies:

  • Dollar Tree Picture Frame
  • Chalk Paint (Like Waverly’s Moss color shown in images)
  • Mod Podge
  • Scrapbook Paper or Printables
  • Rub n Buff

Instructions:

  • Remove the backing from the frame and set aside.
  • Using Mod Podge, apply your favorite scrapbook paper or printable to the backing. Let dry.
  • Apply a second coat of Mod Podge over the the paper to seal it. Let dry.
  • Paint the frame the color of your choice.
  • Once everything is dry, reassemble the frame.

This Dollar Tree frame has such beautiful ornate details, which are perfect for highlighting all the details. Chalk paint works great on the glossy surface because you do not have to prime it first. I applied a light coat of Waverly Chalk paint in the color Moss. I wanted to allow the gold to show underneath to give it a rustic look. Once it was dry, I then sealed it with the Mod Podge.

Christmas tree scrapbook paper, Mod Podge and cardboard to use to make a dollar tree vintage picture

You can find this beautiful scrapbook paper at Hobby Lobby. I just love the evergreen forest print and it matched perfectly with the paint.

Tips for Personalization

  • Experiment with Colors: Use colors your favorite Holiday colors or your everyday Home Decor colors.
  • Layer Textures: Add glitter accents for an extra festive feel like I did in the Angel picture below.
  • Make it Versatile: Make it a seasonal frame by swapping out the Holiday Paper for all the seasons. Use a neutral paint color so that you can use it in your everyday decor.

This Dollar Tree frame transformation is an easy and budget-friendly way to create your own unique and stunning Holiday Decor. It’s so impressive that your friends and family would never guess it came from the Dollar Tree!
