How to make a Rustic Diy Wooden Angel using upcycled items. This is a unique craft that shows you how to use those junk pieces that you have maybe collected over the years. If you love to create crafts using random things, then this one is for you.
I’m going to show you how I took a broken piece of a chair back and upcycled it to create a beautiful Angel. Awhile ago I repurposed a chair that I had purchased from the Thrift Store. I loved the detail on the chair. I painted and re-upholstered and it turned out beautiful. One day my son decided to lean back in the chair and fell and broke it. He was fine, but the chair didn’t make it! I was devastated with all the work that I put into it. I grabbed the pieces that were salvaegable and put them into my craft stash to use on a future project. Let’s get started!
This photo shows the two broken pieces of the back of the chair. The sides and the bottom bottom didn’t make it through the fall.
I used a table leg that I bought at a flea market for the body of the Angel.
To assemble the Angel, I simply stacked the three pieces together and pre-drilled a hole. Next, I added some wood glue and then drilled in a long screw to connect all three pieces together. Sorry about the lack of photos showing this process. I completely forgot to take pictures!
Here is another angle to get a better view.
For the head of the Angel, I used a sofa table leg that I purchased at Lowes. I drilled a hole into the top part of the leg and screwed in the sofa leg.
Can you see the vision of the Angel?
Now it’s time to add the detail!
As you can see, the top part of the wings have this beautiful detail and I really wanted to enhance it. I took some Wavery Antique Wax and painted the whole piece, paying attention to the nooks and crannies.
In the words of Mr. Miagi, it’s time to wax on and wax off.
See how all the detail of the piece just pops? I love this part. To finish it off, I painted the head white and added some jute to it to represent the halo.
This is perfect decor to add to the inside or outside of your home. I can’t decide where I’m going to display mine yet.
