Diy Wood Spring Bunny

Spring is a time for new beginnings and new fun projects! I was looking for an idea to make a large size bunny, so I headed over to Lowes to get some project inspiration. There is just something about the smell of wood and possibilities over there that get me so excited! As I was making my way down one of the aisles, I came across the fencing materials. I was quickly inspired and grabbed a few of the pieces and headed on home to get busy creating! I am excited to share with you this Diy Wood Spring Bunny! Let me tell you that it turned out cuter than I even imagined it would be!

Here is a list of supplies that you will need for this project:

  • Wood Fencing x 2
  • Wood glue
  • Dollar Tree Wood Bunny Butt cutout
  • Drill
  • 1 x 2 piece of wood
  • Jig Saw
  • Screws
  • Paint
  • Scrapbook Paper
  • Mod podge
  • Fabric strips

How to make a Wood Spring Bunny

To begin, I traced out the shape of a bunny onto the wood as shown below.

I cut one side first and then used it as a guide to trace out the other side. You will want to do your best to make sure that the shape matches the other side. To give it a little character, I gave it one floppy ear.

To secure the pieces together, I used a few scrap pieces of 1 x 2 wood that I had. Using my drill, I applied a little wood glue and screwed them into the back.

I put one on the top and one on the bottom part of the bunny to secure it well.

For the final step, I took the Dollar Tree Bunny Butt cutout and wood glued it to the bottom part of the bunnies body.

How to decorate your Diy Wood Spring Bunny!

I don’t know about you, but decorating and bringing the project to life is the most fun for me! It’s so fun to add character and give it some personality!

Removing the feet of a Dollar Tree wood bunny cutout with a spackle knife.

I knew that I wanted to use this beautiful floral scrapbook paper on her little booty to give her some bloomers. To do this, I removed the feet and tail with a spackle tool. You can use some heat to help it loosen up a bit as you gently pull the feet off.

Once you have the feet and tail off, simply trace out the shape onto your scrapbook paper and mod podge it on. When finished, hot glue the pieces back on. Before you glue them back on, make sure to paint them first. I painted mine white.

For her tail, I made one of my fabric flowers and hot glued it on the existing tail. You can see how to make them here. I really love how it gave it character and some dimension! What you think?

Of course she just had to have a cute little bow to finish her off! I made a simple criss cross bow and used a half wood bead for the center.

That’s all there is too it! Is she just not the cutest and that booty of hers with the floral bloomers…oh my!
