If you are looking for something to add to your Fall decorations, this little guy is perfect! This diy scarecrow is so cute and easy to make. I love ALL the Fall and pumpkin decor, but scarecrows have always had a special place in my heart. They just signify Fall to me and they are so fun to look at. You can make them so many different ways.
There are some really cute ones out in the stores this time of year, but I decided that I wanted to make one of my own. I thought it would be fun to see what I could come up with and get creative with stuff that I already have on hand.
Off to my scrap wood stash I went and grabbed a few pieces of wood and got busy creating.
Here is what I used for this Diy Scarecrow
- 2 x 6 piece of scrap wood, 30″ long
- 1 x 2 scrap wood, 16″ long
- Dollar Tree wood pumpkin cut out
- Burlap
- Glue gun
- White, black and orange paint
- Raffia
- Ribbon
- Embellishments
- Jute
- Fall leaves from the Dollar Tree
I found a 2 x 6 and a 1 x 2 piece of wood in my wood stash. For the head, I used a pumpkin wood cut out that I got from the Dollar Tree. I attached the two pieces of wood together in a “T” formation with hot glue and a screw. I am an “eyeballer” and don’t really measure so much, so I don’t have any exact measurements here! Just use your judgment when creating your own. Also, you can make this project any size and height that you like.
I had purchased a burlap table runner a few years back for my Thanksgiving tablescape. Word of advice…if you have one, don’t put it in the washing machine. I washed it and pretty much ruined it. Oops! However, I kept it because I knew it would come in handy some day. Today was the day! I wrapped it around the wood and secured it with hot glue to create the clothes for my diy scarecrow.
We now have a body! LOL
Now to work on our diy scarecrows face!
For the head, I used this Dollar Tree Wood pumpkin cutout. I started with a 2 coats of white paint.
Now, I do not consider myself a good face painter…but if I can do this so can you. Start by drawing a face with a pencil onto the pumpkin. In case you mess up, you can easily erase it. Once you are happy with your drawing, start painting.
He needed some rosy cheeks, so I used some old eyeshadow and a cotton ball and rubbed it onto the wood. This is a very simple way to achieve this look and it stays on just perfectly.
To create the hat, I hot glued the burlap table runner around the top part of the head and tied off the top with some jute.
Dressing this little guy up, was so much fun! Get creative with it. Add some raffia under the hat and throughout his body.
I had some plaid ribbon that I purchased from The Dollar Tree and cut up pieces to create the patches on his clothes. A bag of Fall leaves worked perfectly to create a leaf bow on top.
Is he just not the cutest thing ever? He looks so cute combined with my Front Porch Decor and he is surely to bring a smile to my guests when they come over.
Don’t forget to PIN this Diy Scarecrow for later!!!
