Spring is in the air.. well not quite yet, but is sure feels like it here in Southern California! If you’ve been to the Dollar Tree lately, you know that they are starting to put out their Spring decorations. My brain is starting to go nuts with all the crafty thoughts and ideas! I grabbed some of my Dollar Tree finds and came up with this Diy Dollar Tree Bunny sign that is not only cute, but easy to make too! Let’s get started!
Here is what you’ll need:
- Wood sign. I used this one from The Dollar Tree
- Scrapbook Paper
- Mod Podge
- Dollar Tree Bunny shaped Color Your Own Ornaments
- Wavelry Chalk Paint in the color Moss
- Wavelry Chalk Paint in the color White
- Wax Candle
- Sanding block
- Ribbon
- Glue gun
I first started by sanding off the glitter words that were on the picture. Next, I cut the scrap book paper to fit the sign. By the way, how pretty is this paper? I found it over at JoAnns.
I’m kind of addicted to mod podge, please tell me I’m not the only one! It’s fun and easy to use. With that being said, I applied the scrapbook paper to the picture with the mod podge. After it was on, I made sure to smooth it out to get rid of any wrinkles and air bubbles.
I love how the paper looks like shiplap and the floral pattern is beautiful.
The paint color Moss from Waverly is one of my FAVORITE greens! I used it as the base coat for my bunny.
How to distress the bunny using the candle method
This is a technique that I’ve been wanting to try and this was the perfect project to experiment with. I took a candle and rubbed it on top of the bunny. This will make the top coat of paint not quite adhere to the surface in the areas where the wax is.
Next, I applied the top coat of paint.
Can you see how the green peek-a-boos under the white? This is where the fun begins!
I took a sanding block to it and sanded all over it. This is an easy way to distress wood. Look at all the yummy, chippy, peely-ness! I can’t wait to try this on a larger project.
If you haven’t checked out the ribbon section at the Dollar Tree, you need to. They have some really cute ribbon there right now. I made this cute bow to attach to its ear and I used a cotton ball for the tail. I thought that it was the perfect addition that it needed.
So tell me what you think? It’s a super easy and cute project that will be the perfect addition to your Spring Decor!
Pin for later!!
I had so much fun making this project, that I ended up making another one! You can watch a VIDEO of it here.
