Recycled Vintage Pasta Jar

This recycled vintage pasta jar craft is definitely what I like to call a “two-fer” and what I mean by that is last nights dinner gets to be today’s craft! Glass jars can be used for a variety of things around the house. Whether it be for cute storage containers or home decor. For this project I am going to show you how I took a pasta sauce jar and recycled it into beautiful, rustic home decor.

If you are not recycling your glass containers yet, I sure hope that this project inspires you too. All you need is a few supplies and some creativity.

Here is what you’ll need to make your own Recycled Vintage Pasta Jar

  • Pasta Jar
  • Waverly Chalk Paint in Plaster
  • Black acrylic paint
  • Mod Podge
  • Printable
  • Knob
  • Jute
  • Hot Glue
  • Sanding block

Any size pasta sauce jar will do for this project or really any glass container for that matter.

How to Make Your Own Recycled Vintage Pasta Jar

I started by applying 2 coats of Black Acrylic paint to the jar and the lid. Make sure to allow the paint to dry completely between coats.

Next, I took the Waverly Chalk Paint in Plaster and applied 2 coats over the black.

After the paint was completely dry, I took a sanding block to it and distressed it a bit.

If you have never checked out The Graphics Fairy, I recommend that you do. There are a ton of beautiful transfers to choose from and most of them are free. Be prepared to spend a lot of time on her website! I found these bee printables there and decided to use them for this project. I cut one out and applied it with mod podge. To apply mod podge you will paint the surface first, then apply the printable. I like to apply a second coat on top of the printable to seal it down.

Next, I added some jute to the rim of the jar. I LOVE jute. It’s perfect to use for rustic, vintage crafts. It just ties everything together.

How cool are these vintage looking keys? I found them over at JoAnns for about $11.00 and I used my 40% off coupon. I took one and looped some jute through it and tied it to the jar.

For the final part, I took a knob and hot glued it to the top of the lid. You can also see a video of how I made the other jar here.

I just love how these turned out. They are just the perfect addition to my rustic, vintage decor. They are great for fillers for your vignette or even as a storage container for cotton balls or q-tips in your bathroom.
