Dollar Tree Rustic Flower

Ok, friends let me be honest here…this craft requires you to really think outside of the box. I was racking my brain on something unique that I could come up with. I came across these pot and pan protectors at The Dollar Tree and they instantly looked like a flower to me. Right then and there the idea of this project was born! LOL

Here are a few of the supplies that you’ll need:

  • Dollar Tree Pot and Pan Protectors
  • Dollar Tree Tin cookie sheet
  • Hot Glue
  • Waverly Chalk Paint in the color Plaster
  • Waverly Chalk Paint in the color Truffle
  • Jute

Do you see what I’m saying about it looking like a flower?

Using my hot glue gun, I glued the felt pieces directly onto the cookie sheet. I started with the larger size, then the medium size and then the smaller size.

Next,I cut the cookie sheet around the “petals”. This allowed me to be able to shape and bend the petals to make it look more realistic.

The cookie sheet is very flimsy and easy to work with. I was able to use a regular pair of scissors to cut it.

I grabbed my Waverly paint in Plaster and a chip brush and randomly applied paint to give it a weathered look. Stay with me here…I told you it was a “think outside of the box” craft! 😀

Next, I added some Waverly Chalk paint in the color Truffle around the edges of the petals to give more dimension.

It was starting to look really cool. It almost looks like stone. What do you think?

I had on old dresser knob that made the perfect center for my flower. I painted it in the color Truffle.

To make a hanger, I took some Jute and just hot glued it to the back.

To give it a little sparkle, I lightly applied some glitter paint to it.

Tada… a flower is born! I really love how this turned out. I know you’ve seen those metal flowers in the big named stores and how pricey they can be, right? Well, this one cost only about $3.00 to make! Now that’s a bargain!

By the way, if you’re interested in seeing how I made the vintage jar go here.

As always, my hope is to inspire you to create, make and decorate something beautiful for your home! If you like this craft, please share with your friends!
