My She Shed Makeover

I am so excited to share with you my shed makeover. This is a project that I knew I wanted to do ever since me and my husband purchased our Tuff Sheds about 6 years ago! Well, I finally got around to doing it.

I’ve been using our spare room as my craft room, but I really wanted a space that I can just lock myself in and let my crafting ideas flow freely. My dream is to make this blog and craft life my business and to do that, I need a home office. With that being said, let me share with you what I like to call “My Creative Cottage” and the journey it took to get there. I did most of the work myself, with a little help from a few of the guys in my family.

What it looked like before!!!!

This is what it looked like on the inside after we removed most of the stuff that was in there. It’s a standard 10×12 Tuff shed. I knew that I wanted to turn it into a cozy Farmhouse vibe, but I was on a serious budget. I found 12ft unfinished tongue and groove Shiplap at Lowes. They were about $10.00 each. I purchased 12 of them and I put them on the back wall only.

I decided to use plywood on the rest of the walls. It fit with the budget. I did have to bring in some help with this part, as the cuts were tricky! I called in my husband, brother and nephew. Thank goodness for the guys! There were A LOT of gaps, but nothing a little caulk and some good old elbow grease couldn’t handle!

Next step was to frame out the windows. I used 1×4 wood for the side and bottom, a 1×6 for the window sill, 1×2’s for top trim and 1×3 for the very top. All I can say is, thank goodness for power tools! Here is a template of the wood placement for the windows. I have a total of 3 windows in my shed.

Step by steps for the windows.

Once the windows were done, I tackled the ceiling. What I ended up doing was cutting pieces of a 1×2 and nail gunned them into the wood beams. Then I cut plywood into panels and nailed them into the 1×2 pieces to secure them in. I’m not going to lie, this part was labor intensive. I was getting frustrated and wanted to quit!! I took A LOT of breaks, but persevered. 😀 Girl power!!! 💪

Finally it was time to prime the walls! I used a whole 1 gallon Kilz interior and exterior primer. The plywood really absorbed the paint.

I ended up choosing Sherwin Williams Agreeable gray on the walls.

What about those floors?

I saved the floors for last because I really didn’t know what I was going to do with them. I pretty much was at the end of my budget. It was time to get really creative. I had some left over paint from the ship lap wall and decided to white wash the floors with it. We had a few leftover pieces of laminate from when we had our floors done in the house, so I grabbed one and used it as a template. I took a black sharpie and traced out the laminate pieces on the floor! Oh my goodness…it started to look like a laminate floor! It seriously ended up being one of my favorite parts of the shed!

The After photos!!!!

This project was a serious challenge for me, but I’m so proud of myself for deciding to tackle it! If you can get anything from this post, I hope it is to not be afraid to tackle something you have been wanting to do. The reward at the end is so satisfying!

The light fixture is from Lowes.
