My husbands birthday is in December and I wanted to create a beautiful Italian themed dinner party for him. My vision was to have a beautiful setting outdoors and feel as if we were taken away to the Amalfi Coast in Italy. I have never been there and it’s definitely a bucket list place that I would love to visit one day. The Amalfi Coast is known for vibrant colors of yellows and blues, lemons and Al Fresco dining. Thankfully, here in Southern California our weather is pretty good all throughout the year, which makes it possible to have Al Fresco dining even in the winter months.
We love to entertain and I love to create a beautiful table setting for my guests. Most of the items that I have used for this tablescape are things that I already had on hand. However, I needed to find table cloth and for that I headed over to Home goods. I was actually suprised to see that they had some lemon decor out during the Christmas season. I got lucky and found two beautiful table cloths in the exact colors that I was looking for!
How to create an Italian Themed Dinner Party Tablescape
I found a lemon table cloth and layered the top of it with this beautiful blue table cloth. The blue and yellow just look so stunning and vibrant together.
Now off to shop my own home for the rest of the decor. I like to incorporate different items in my tablescapes to give them visual interest. For a riser, I grabbed a small box that I purchased from the thrift store and flipped it upside down. I placed an old book on a tray and put a candle and some greenery on top to create different textures. The candle is from The Dollar Tree and the topiary was from Targets Dollar spot a few years ago.
Risers are great way to add highs and lows to your table and create a good flow for the eye. The riser with the lemon topiary is a Dollar Tree Diy that I made. You can see how I made it here.
Adding some fresh lemons into your design is an easy and inexpensive way to add beautiful pops of color.

Italian Dinner Party Menu
The menu started off with a yummy antipasto charcuterie board. These are so fun to make because you have the freedom to add whatever you like in them. I used a variety of italian meats, cheese, roasted red peppers, olives, cherry peppers, crackers and grapes. Some fresh clipped Rosemary from my garden tied it all together.
For dinner I served homemade Italian pasta sauce with meatballs and sausage, along with this beautiful salad! The ingredients include mixed greens, arugula, spinach, kalamata olives, capers, cherry tomatoes, mushroom, red onion and cucumbers. I finished it off with fresh squeezed lemon juice and olive oil.
A refreshment table included lemon cucumber water, Pellegrino and of course wine.
The evening turned out wonderful. What better way to celebrate a birthday than with good food and family? I hope that you got some inspiration to create your own Italian Dinner Party Tablescape. Table decor does not have to be expensive. It’s all about getting creative with items that you have and having fun!
