There’s just something about Fall. The turning of the leaves, the cooler air, the smells…. really EVERYTHING! It has always been my favorite time of the year. In fact, if it could be Fall all year long I would be as happy as can be. I am a huge believer in decorating my porch for the seasons, after all it’s your guests first opinion of your home. Your porch should be welcoming and a preview of what’s inside. I hope my Fall Front Porch Decor inspires you to decorate yours.
This year I decided to start decorating a little earlier than usual with my front porch. I’ve been thinking for awhile about what color scheme that I wanted to do. That black and white color scheme is so beautiful, it’s think it’s timeless and classy. A huge bonus is that it incorporates well with Halloween, which just so happens to be one of my favorite Holidays! So, you basically get a two-fer! Who doesn’t appreciate that, right?
So, first step was to do an inventory of what I had on hand before I headed over to Hobby Lobby. I don’t know about you, but I tend to forget all that I have after a year of not seeing it! I really try and repurpose the things I already have without going out and spending a fortune on the new stuff. With all the super cute things out there, it is so easy to do!
Ok, so are you ready to see what I did? I sure hope so!
First, let me show you what I was working with. I’m a huge thrift store shopper and I love to paint and repurpose things. I picked up this cute little dresser a few years ago for about $10.00 at the Goodwill. It’s been quite a few different colors, but I think I love it black the most. The paint has weathered and chipped a bit and I love it! I just love the shabby, chippy look, don’t you?
I picked up the chair over at Habitat for Humanity Re-store for $5.00. It was already painted black, so I didn’t have to do anything to it! Score!!!
Now, for the fun to begin! I pulled out some of my pumpkins that I have had for quite some time and decided that they needed a serious makeover. So, I grabbed my black and white spray paint and went to town.
I added some jewel trim from The Dollar Tree to the black one and painted the stem gold. I think it added just the right amount of bling. And how cute is the one with polka dots? But, the one on right with the beads happens to be my favorite one. I did a stencil technique on it with a Dollar Tree place mat. You can see how I did that here.
The little Farm Fresh Pumpkin sign is from Hobby Lobby and I got it for 40% off. It was about $12.00.
Hey there, Pumpkin! You can find that cute pillow case over at Hobby Lobby too for about $6.00. What a deal, huh?
When decorating vignettes, a good rule is to create height from the left to right. This is how your eye naturally goes when you read a book and it creates a great visual flow.
I love to collect cake stands and use them as risers when decorating. Seriously, how cute does that pumpkin look sitting on top of one? Candlesticks work really well too, as you can see that black pumpkin peek-booing on top of one behind the picture.
A good rule of thumb is to shop around your house for stuff that you can tie into your theme. I did just that and my flea market lantern worked perfectly! Would you believe that it is a Pottery Barn lantern and I only paid FIVE WHOLE DOLLARs for it!!!!! I got lucky from a vendor who didn’t want to hall it home after a day at the flea market and she was basically asking $5.00 for all that she had left! It was my lucky day!!
Well, there you have it….My Fall Front Porch Decor! I hope that it has inspired you to get out there and decorate your porch and I hope it gave you a few ideas that you can incorporate into yours.
