If you like a unique craft that is a little outside of the box, this craft is for you. I am about to show you how to take a few wire baskets from the Dollar Tree and turn them into a cute, little Wire Basket Snowman.
If you love snowmen, this guy is guaranteed to bring a smile to your face. It takes a little creativity and imagination, so if you are ready…let’s get started!
Here is what you’ll need:
- 2 large and 2 small wire baskets from The Dollar Tree
- wire
- E6000
- Glue gun
- Polyfil stuffing
- Black top hat
- Large wiggle eyes
- Embellishments… ribbon, snowflakes, felt for buttons, black buttons or whatever you can think of to decorate your snowman.
How to make a Wire Basket Snowman
I picked up these wire baskets over at the Dollar Tree and after looking at them for a minute, I thought they would be perfect to make a snowman!
I grabbed some polyfil and placed it inside of the baskets to create the look of snow.
To assemble the body of the wire basket snowman, I took some E6000 and hot glue and stacked the two large ones together and the two small ones together. The hot glue will give a quick hold and the E6000 will give it a permanent hold.
For added reinforcement, I decided to take some flexible floral wire and weave the wire through the baskets. This step can be optional, but I didn’t want to wait for the E6000 to sit overnight. I tend to get a little impatient when I craft! Anyone else?
I continued this process on both of the baskets.
Next, I hot glued the smaller baskets on top of the larger ones.
Tada… we have a snowman body! How cool right? Now onto the super fun part of decorating him.
Time to bring him to life!!
I picked up a pair of buffalo plaid pajama pants and the top hat over at the 99 Cent Store for exactly that…99 Cents each. The glitter felt was left over from another project.
I cut the glitter felt into circles for the snowman’s buttons. Next, I grabbed some ribbon to create a bow for the hat.
For his scarf, I cut a piece of the pajama pants and wrapped it around his neck and secured it with hot glue.
I added some wiggle eyes and one of these carrots that I picked up over at the Dollar Tree during Easter for his nose.
Little black buttons from the Dollar Tree made a perfect mouth.
To finish it up and to hide the wire on the bottom baskets, I took some polyfil and hot glued it on around the base.
For the arms, I went into my yard and cut a few branches off a tree and hot glued them to the basket.
Here it is all finished! How stinkin cute is he? I just LOVE how this wire basket snowman turned out.
I made another wire basket snowman and decided to add lights and no polyfil. Which do one do you like best?
I definitely like the way both turned out! I will be adding some lights to the other one for sure. Just in case you are wondering, I placed the battery pack underneath the top hat. I didn’t glue the hats down, so I can change out the batteries when needed.
I hope that you enjoyed this project! Let me know if you will be adding this project to your list of Christmas crafts. I sure hope that you do!
