Well friends, it’s almost officially Fall and that makes me a happy camper! I love everything about this time of the year. What about you? One of my favorite things about Fall is shopping over at the Dollar Tree and grabbing the little styrofoam pumpkins that they sell each year. I have made over quite a few of them over the years and let me tell you, this is one of my favorites! If you are a lover of all things chippy, this Dollar Tree Spackle Pumpkin will be right up your alley! It’s easy to make and it all starts with a trip to the good ol’ Dollar Tree.
Here is what you will need to get started:
- Dollar Tree Styrofoam Pumpkin
- Spackle. I got mine from the Dollar Tree.
- Pallette knife
- Paint Brush
- Paint colors of your choice.
- String of crafting pearls.
- Knob
- Glue gun
You can find the spackle at the Dollar Tree over in the section that they sell the paint brushes. I picked up my set of pallet knives over on Amazon.

Begin by applying the spackle all over the pumpkin with a pallette knife, like you are icing a cake. The purpose of the spackle is to create texture on the pumpkin. The less smooth the better.
Here is what you will end up with. It looks like a perfectly iced little pumpkin cake! Set aside to dry. The drying time will vary depending on your climate. I let mine dry over night.
I really love the blue pumpkins that are out this year and decided to paint it blue. The color that I chose is Silver Marlin by Folk Art. It’s the perfect combo of blue and gray. Simply apply your paint with a paint brush.
This project is all about creating different textures to really transform it. Grabbing my glue gun, I used a string of craft pearls to attach to the grooves on the sides of the pumpkin.
Next, I painted over them with the Silver Marlin paint.
It’s all about texture!!
Time to pick up that spackle knife again and create some more texture. Using my palette knife, I applied Burnt Umber and Moss green and lightly went over the raised parts that the spackle created to create a chipped paint effect.
For the stem, I grabbed this knob that I purchased from Hobby Lobby on clearance. I added a little floral moss at the base to finish it off.
Tada… that’s it!!
That’s all there is to it! I just love how this Dollar Tree Spackle Pumpkin turned out. No one would ever know that this is a $1.00 styrofoam pumpkin! It’ll be our little secret. 😉
Just look at all the yummy texture! This pumpkin looks old, rustic and all things French Country. What do you all think? Will you try this Dollar Tree Spackle Pumpkin for your next Fall craft project? I would love for you to let me know in the comments. 😀
