Dollar Tree Luau Party

Hey there friends! Are you looking for some ideas to host a luau party on a budget? Today I want to share with you some creative ideas that I came up with for my Dollar Tree Luau Party. The Dollar Tree sells a ton of great party decor to host any kind of party that you want. This year they had so many cute things for a Luau party, from plates, to signs, banners and more. Let me show you how you can purchase inexpensive party decor and make it look like it wasn’t!

I have planned and hosted many parties, however a Luau themed party is a new one for me. I wanted an excuse to kick off Summer and hang out with some family and friends. Off to the Dollar tree I went to shop and grab all the goodies that they had to offer.

As my guests arrived, they were greeted with this Welcome sign that directed them where to go. I used a 1 x 2 from my scrap wood stash to create a hanger for the sign.

The first thing that I wanted my guests to see when they passed through the gate was a bucket full of leis. The Dollar Tree sold 6 leis for a dollar. That was a great deal and affordable for the amount of people that I had invited. I placed them in this cute bucket and wrote a little saying on the chalkboard sign. You can find those at the Dollar Tree as well. Everyone who arrived had a lei to place around their neck.

Once my guests put on their leis, they could take a great photo in front of the photo backdrop area. I strung some fish netting along the wall and placed a few fun props in it.

THE TABLESCAPE AND FOOD!!

One of my favorite things to do for parties is to create a fun tablescape! The tablecloth is actually 2 different ones from the Dollar Tree. The green grass one is separate from the pink one. I just simply taped it along the sides of the table and on top of the pink one. Next, I went out to my yard and cut off some frons from my Palm Trees. I layed them out onto the table to create some texture and color. The Dollar Tree sells a pack of sea shells and I scattered them all around.

To create some height for the food, I grabbed a few wood crates. I placed some of the fish net on top of them. Using real fruit is a good way to add decor as well. As you can see, I used a few pineapples.

The little blue pinepapple is actually a cup from The Dollar Tree. What’s cool about it is that it lights up! The kids loved them.

dollar tree candle and flamingo

This candle is actually one of the tall white candles from The Dollar Tree. I made a few different ones to add to my tablescape. You can see how I made them here.

We had catered in Ono Hawaaiian Barbecue for the food. To let our guests know what to expect for dinner, I made a menu card out of a pack that I purchased from Party City. Let me just say that they were happy with the menu! The food was AMAZING!!

Dessert Menu

Can you believe that I forgot to take pictures of the desserts? Here is the menu…lol. You know how it goes when you host a party. You get a little busy doing all the things! I do have a picture of the S’mores bar. The tray in the back was another diy that I made using a few plates from The Dollar Tree. You can also see another one of the candles there on the right. To see how I made them both, click here.

smores bar

I saw this idea on Pinterest and thought it was great! What I did was take a serving tray that I had and cut 2 1×2’s to make dividers. I bought these individual gel lighter cans from Smart and Final and placed them in the center. Next, I took some lava rock from our yard and placed them in between the cans. Grab a glass container and place some wooden skewers in it. Place your graham crackers, chocolate and marshmallows on the sides and BOOM… you have a portable S’mores Bar! It was the hit of the party!!!

Game ideas!

To keep the party going, we had a limbo contest and hula hoop contest. We have a pool, so I picked up a water volleyball set from Amazon. It was so much fun!
