Dollar Tree Gingerbread Man Sign

I don’t know about you, but I just LOVE Gingerbread men! They are cheerful, bright and all things HAPPY! This simple Dollar Tree Gingerbread Man Sign is not only ADORABLE, but is completely budget friendly. It’s a great craft to make with both children and adults and will for sure bring a smile to anyone’s face.

For Christmas this year, I am decorating my kitchen in a Candy land and Gingerbread theme. It’s been super fun coming up with some budget friendly ideas to incorporate them into my decor and I am excited to share with you my latest Gingerbread craft!

You can find most of the supplies to make this cute little sign over at the Dollar Tree.

Here is what you will need!

  • Pack of Dollar Tree Gingerbread Men foam cut outs
  • Dollar Tree Canvas sign of any size. I used a 4 x 6 for mine.
  • Scrapbook paper ( The one I am using is from Hobby Lobby)
  • Mod Podge
  • White paint
  • Ribbon
  • Embellishments

Instructions:

You will first start out by tracing out the scrapbook paper to fit the size of the canvas. Using Mod Podge, you will apply the paper to the canvas.

I like to use my heat gun to help the paper stick and speed up the drying time. It also helps to smooth out any bubbles that you may get from the Mod Podge. You can also use a blow dryer if you do not have a heat gun.

To clean up the edges and to add a border, I applied bakers twine all around the edges of the canvas. You can find the twine over at the Dollar Tree too!

Next, I attached the gingerbread foam cut out with hot glue. I ended up flipping it over and putting the glitter side down to get more of a realistic gingerbread color. I did make the CUTEST gingerbread men garland using the glitter side. You can see a video of it here. If you like this craft…you will love the garland too!

Time to decorate the Gingerbread Man!

Now, the fun begins! Let’s bring our gingerbread man to life. I took some white acrylic paint and started to decorate him like I would a cookie! The white paint looks like the royal icing and the these colorful buttons look like candy. Get creative with yours and have fun doing it. 😀

I found a pack of these faux peppermint candies at Hobby Lobby that made a perfect lollipop. A little bit of jute made a perfect stick to hold the lollipop.

To create a hanger, I took the same bakers twine and hot glued it to the back of the canvas.

Seriously, how cute is this Dollar Tree Gingerbread Man Sign?

I just LOVE how this sign turned out! It was super easy to make and cost less than $5.00!

He is the PERFECT addition to my Candy land and Gingerbread theme!

I’ve been messing around with different places to put him in my kitchen, but I think I love him the most on my diy dollar tree sled riser on my kitchen table. It’s such a cute and happy little vignette! What do you think?
