I was wanting to experiment a little and create some texture to the sign. Grabbing a palette knife, I applied some spackle. It’s kind of like icing a cake! Just plop it on there and smooth out as you go!

Set the spackled piece aside to dry.

I went digging into my craft stash and found this old sign that I made. It was the perfect size that I needed and a bonus is that it was in need of a little TLC! I grabbed some of my favorite paint and got busy.

When the spackle was good and dry, I decided to paint it in one of my favorite colors called Moss from Waverly Chalk Paint. Does it look like guacamole to you or am I just hungry? 😂

Next, I took the peat pots and cut them in half. I wanted to paint it to look like a terra cotta pot. I started to paint the first coat in the color Pumpkin by Waverly Chalk paint.

This is where the paint fun begins! We are just going to start layering on some different colors here. I grabbed some antique wax and applied it with a wadded up paper towel and started to dab it on. Next, I took some white paint and added that too. Have some fun and play with it until you get the look that you want.

You should end up with something like this. Looks kinda cool, doesn’t it?

I found this mossy like ribbon over at Hobby Lobby. It kind of tied in with the floral look that I was going for. I cut a strip and hot glued it on.

Now to assemble it!

I hot glued the peat pot on and placed some faux lavender flowers in it. A great thing about this project is that the flowers are interchangeable.

To create a hanger for the sign, I took some wood beads and strung some jute through them. I drilled two holes into the wood and strung the jute through and secured it with hot glue onto the back. A great tip is to cut some ribbon and glue it onto the top of the jute for extra reinforcements.

I attached the watering can sign on with hot glue and THAT’S IT! Oh, I forgot to mention that I painted the word BLOOM onto the watering can. It’s just what it needed! What do you all think? Will you be creating a Dollar Tree Bloom sign for yourself?
