Creepy Witch Finger Cookies

Spooky season is here and I have the perfect Halloween treat for you to make for your friends and family. These Creepy Witch Finger Cookies have become a Halloween tradition in my home and for our Halloween parties. They are not just creepy looking, they actually taste good. These would be a great cookie to bring for your Halloween office party potlucks. Just imagine coming in with a bowl full of “fingers.” You will for sure be the hit of the party!

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup softened butter
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp almond extract
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 2 2/3 cups flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 bag of blanched, sliced almonds
  • red decorating gel
  • green food dye, optional

Halloween is truly my favorite time of the year. I love everything about it and making spooky treats is one of them. My family looks forward to these creepy witch finger cookies every year. They are a shortbread cookie and taste great with a cup of coffee or hot cocoa.

Directions:

In a medium size bow, beat together the butter, sugar, egg, almond extract and vanilla until smooth and well combined. Mix your flour, baking powder and salt in a separate bowl.

Add your dry ingredients to your wet ingredients and beat together. Cover and refrigerate for 30 minutes.

Roll a heaping teaspoon of the dough into a finger shape.

Take your fingers and squeeze the center of the cookie to create the knuckles.

Using a knife, make slashes on the “knuckles” to create the wrinkles on the finger.

Use some broken almonds for the nails. I think it adds to the effect and makes them look even creepier!

Place all the cookies on a lightly greased baking sheet. Bake a 325 degrees for 20 -25 minutes. Do not over bake the cookie. Let cool for a few minutes.

Remove the almond and squeeze the red gel on the nail bed. Place the almond back on top. You now have a bloody finger!!

A great way to serve them up is in a small cauldron filled with a combination of crushed oreos and graham crackers to create the look of dirt. To make them even creepier, I brushed them with brown luster dust. You can find luster dust in the cake decorating sections at your local hobby stores. Have fun and get creative decorating them.

You can watch a video on how to make the cookies here.

Let me know if you will be trying these creepy witch finger cookies for Halloween. I guarantee they will be the hit of the party!!
