I love a good trash to treasure makeover! It’s so fun to take something that someone would otherwise throw away or donate to the good will and turn it into a beautiful piece of decor. I love to give things a new life and a new purpose. This project does just that. I took an old window from Habitat from Humanity and a planter box from the Goodwill and turned them into the most beautiful Upcycled Window Planter Box! Of course, with that good ol’ French Country flair that is totally my style.

These small planter boxes can most always be found sitting on the shelves at Thrift Stores. If for some reason you cannot find one, any type of planter box will do. The Dollar Tree is a good place to search for some too. You will usually find plastic or tin ones there and they would work just fine for this project.
I first began by simply drilling some screws through the box into the window frame on both sides.
Thankfully, the screws went in with no problem. You may need to pre-drill some holes first and then apply the screws if yours doesn’t want to cooperate.
Next, I gave them both a coat of Rust-o-leum Chalk Paint in White Linen.
How to decorate an Upcycled Window Planter Box
I wanted to give the planter box a French Country flair, so I headed on over the The Graphics Fairy and found this beautiful printable that was perfect for the job!
To give the edges of my printable a soft look and to help it blend into the box, I tore off the edges around the design. Next, I painted on some mod podge and laid the printable over it. I smoothed out the wrinkles with my hand.
Decorative knobs are a great way to dress up your boxes! I found these over at Hobby Lobby quite some time ago. The roses were a perfect match for the printable. I drilled two holes into the planter box and screwed the knobs into them.
To finish it off, I added some pink florals and some greenery into the planter box. It turned out just BEAUTIFUL! What do think?
I added one more knob onto the top of the window and hung a box wood wreath on it. That’s just what it needed to complete it! To hang the window, I put 2 screws onto the back of it and tied some wire around them.
I think this trash to treasure makeover was successful! My hope is that is has inspired you to get a little creative and to look at how you can upcyle and repurpose items and turn them into beautiful home decor. All it takes is a little bit of creativity! Home decor does not have to be expensive.
