Angels can me made and created out of just about anything. Their shape is pretty basic, so it allows you to really get creative with many forms of different media. While digging through the my tool box the other day, I came across some old drawer pulls that I had in a plastic bag. After looking at them for a few and wondering what I could make with them… it popped in my head! I came up with this unique mixed media rustic angel using a drawer pull and a few other items that you probably have hanging around in your craft stash.

Here is what you will need to make one:
- Drawer pull or handle
- knob
- dollar tree cookie sheet pan
- bottle cap
- glue gun
- white paint
- mod podge
- cinnamon
- scrap wood
- stamp kit
The cookie sheet pans at the Dollar Tree are very flimsy, which makes them very easy to cut through with a simple pair of scissors. Begin by tracing out the shape of angel wings and cut them out.
You will need a piece of scrap wood or a picture frame to have as a base for your Angel. I used a scrap wood piece of a 2×4 that I had in my crafty stash. Once you have your wings cut out, apply hot glue to the back of them and place them onto your base.
Is it me or do the wings look like a mustache? 😂.
Next, grab some white paint and paint your wings.
I’ve seen the technique using cinnamon and mod podge to create the look of rust and I decided this would be the perfect project to try it on! It was a little more blotchy than what I wanted, but it ended up working out. If you haven’t tried this technique, I highly encourage you to try it. You simply will apply the mod podge and then sprinkle the cinnamon over it. Keep messing with it until you get the look that you desire. It looks cool and smells AMAZING!
I ended up taking a sanding block to it and lightly sanded over it to try and break it up a bit. It helped! What do you think about this technique?
Time to assemble it!
Now, it’s just a matter of gluing it all together. Grab your glue gun and get busy! I glued the drawer pull on the wood and then grabbed my knob and glued it on the top to use as the head.
I found a bottle cap and painted it brown to use as a halo and glued it to the top of the knob. You’ll see that in just a minute!
Using my stamp kit, I stamped the psalm, “Under his wings we shall take refuge” onto the wood for an extra touch.
I just love how this turned out and I hope that you do too!
Do you think that you will make a rustic mixed media angel of your own? I sure hope that you do. Let me know in the comments if you will.
