Dollar Tree French Country Planter

If you love French Country and Shabby Chic, I think you will love this project! Would you believe that I made this beautiful Dollar Tree French Country Planter for about $5.00?

The Dollar Tree is a great place to find things to upcycle and re-purpose. It’s affordable and there is so many fun things for you to grab. If you’ve been there, you know what I mean!

How to make a Dollar Tree French Country Planter

Here is what you will need:

  • Plastic fencing from the Dollar Tree
  • Oval Tin Container from the Dollar Tree
  • Scrap wood
  • Drill
  • Glue gun
  • Paint
  • Scissors
  • wire
  • Mod podge

I began by drilling the holes into the tin container first. Next, I lined the tin up where I wanted to place it on the piece of wood. I took a sharpie and made marks through the holes onto the wood. I then drilled the holes into the wood.

Luckily, my scrap wood was already painted from a previous project and the pink and white was perfect! I knew that it would go well with my French County theme. So, that was a bonus! 😉

Next, I cut down the plastic fencing to the size that I wanted. It cut pretty easy with just plain old scissors.

Waverly Chalk paint is one of my favorite paints to use and the color Moss is such a beautiful green. I added a coat of it to my tin container.

To add a shabby and distressed look to it, I simply took a make up sponge and antique wax and applied it randomly to the tin container.

I went onto The Graphics Fairy website and printed this beautiful French typography picture. If you haven’t been on her website, I highly recommend it! Allow yourself some time over there because there is a ton of stuff to look at!

I decided to tear the edges off of the paper to create a softer edge and make it appear to be a little more worn and weathered. Next, I took mod podge and applied the paper to the wood. I finished it off by painting some of the antique wax around the edges of the paper.

To distress and weather up the fencing, I dry brushed some chalk paint over it.

Time to assemble the Dollar Tree French Country Planter

To assemble the planter, I used wire. I simply looped it through the holes on the tin container through the back of the piece of wood and twisted it together.

I grabbed my hot glue gun and attached the fencing piece to the planter and the wood. Add some greenery and florals and that’s it!!

What do you all think? I just love how it turned out. You could customize this idea to your liking and color scheme. It looks beautiful and vibrant and adds the perfect touch to my patio.
