Ok friends, let me just tell you how excited I am to share this craft with you!!! Do you get excited when you see something in your head actually come to life? This is one of those kind of crafts for me. I was thinking of some creative ideas to come up with for some outdoor Christmas decor with a pool noodle! I grabbed a Dollar Tree reindeer head and the thought came to me… why not a diy Pool Noodle Reindeer?
Let me show you how to make the CUTEST little reindeer for your outdoor or indoor decor that is totally different from anything you have ever seen!
Here is a list of supplies that you’ll need to make your own diy pool noodle reindeer
- Pool Noodle
- Dollar Tree Reindeer head
- Glue gun
- Fishing line
- Brown, pink, white, red and black paint
- Ribbon
- Paintbrush
- Rust-oleum Brown spray paint
- Wood dowels
- Raffia
Let’s get started!!
The first thing you will do is to spray paint your pool noodle. This will require at least 2 coats. I recommend that you allow it to dry completely overnight. I tend to get impatient and didn’t allow it to dry completely and it flaked off when I went to bend the noodle. (You will see that part in minute.)
Take a wooden dowel and hammer it into the grass to hold the noodle while you spray paint.
While your noodles are drying, paint the reindeer face. I used Burnt Umber in folk art paint as the base of my reindeer head.
Have fun painting and bringing your reindeer to life! I used white and black for the eyes and a light pink for the ears and detailing.
Now listen, I do not consider myself and great face painter, but I think it turned out pretty cute!
If you plan on using your reindeer outside like me, I suggest that you put a sealer of some kind over the reindeer head to protect it from the elements.
Time to assemble the reindeer!
For the next step, you will need to grab your fishing line. Using your reindeer head as a guide, fold over the top part of the pool noodle. Take the fishing line and tie it around the noodle to secure it down.
This is what it will look like.
Now, take the reindeer head and hot glue it onto the pool noodle. For extra reinforcement, I would suggest combing E6000 with the hot glue. By the way, you can see a video of this whole project here.
That’s all there is to it! How cute is this reindeer? I can’t wait to line up my yard with these little guys for Christmas.
What do you all think about this diy pool noodle reindeer? Do you think that you will try making some for yourself? I would love it if you would leave a comment and let me know. 😀
Don’t forget to PIN for later!!!
