Distressed French Country Crown

Hey friends! Today I am back to share with you this crown that I picked up over at the Thrift Store for only a few bucks! I love Crowns! They represent royalty and are beautiful. This one reminded me of one of our families many vacations at the Hotel Del Coronado in San Diego. If you have ever been there, you know that the symbol for the Hotel is a Crown. In fact, they have a whole banquet room that has these beautiful Crown Chandeliers hanging in it. It is really something to see!

The price was right for the Crown, but the shimmery gold color was not. It was nothing that a little paint job couldn’t handle. I brought it home and grabbed my favorite paint and turned it into the most beautiful Distressed French Country Crown that matches my style perfectly! It goes great with the decor and looks beautiful in my home. I can’t wait to show you how I distressed it and turned it from drab to fab!

Here are the products that I used to paint and create the Distressed look.

Using white chalk paint to paint a gold crown.

I began by applying two coats of Rust-oleum Chalk Paint in Linen White. Allowing each coat to dry in between.

How to Create the Distressed French Country Look

Applying Valspar Glaze to white paint to add a distressed look.

Working in small sections I applied Valspar Antiquing Glaze with my paint brush. I made sure to get into all those little nooks and crannies. You can find the Valspar Glaze over at Lowes, but you can really use any glaze that you like.

Next, I immediately grabbed a paper towel and wiped the glaze off. For the areas that appeared a little dark, I used a baby wipe to remove the excess.

I continued this process over the whole crown.

And… here is the finished result! I am in love with how it looks now. The glazing technique really brought out the details and gave it that old world charm the crown needed.

I placed my favorite battery operated candle inside of it and placed it on a riser as part of my table centerpiece.

To create my centerpiece I used an old window as my base. I added this Eucalyptus garland that lights up and created a beautiful French Country Style display. What do you think? I would love for you to leave a comment below and let me know.
