Pool Noodle Lollipops
Lollipop, lollipop, oh lollipop! These pool noodle lollipops add such a fun Candy land theme to your Christmas decor or if you are having a Candy land themed party. I just think it adds a special and fun kind of whimsy. They are a perfect addition without breaking the bank! I’m about to show you how to make these for roughly $5.00 each. Who’s in?
MATERIALS NEEDED:
- 2 POOL NOODLES ( I got mine from The Dollar Tree)
- cellophane wrapping ( From The Dollar Tree)
- PVC PIPE
- WOODEN DOWEL
- HOT GLUE
- RIBBON
- TAPE
Let me warn you ahead of time…. You will be using A LOT of hot glue for this project and you will probably burn your fingers a few times!
I first started by cutting down my PVC pipe and my wooden dowels. I purchased mine at Lowes. The PVC pipe was roughly $2.70 for a 10ft piece. I chose the 1/2” diameter. I cut it down to 3ft pieces, so I was able to get 3 pieces out of the one. Then I cut the wooden dowel to just about 1-2” longer than the PVC pipe. You want to make sure that the wooden dowel is smaller in diameter than the PVC pipe. Your goal is to insert the wooden dowel through the pipe.
Next step is to just start rolling. You want to roll the noodle as tight together as you can and add the hot glue with each roll. This part requires a bit of patience.
I would recommend that you hot glue both of the noodle ends together BEFORE you start the project and add some clear tape where the noodles come together for added stability. You want it to essentially be one long noodle. I sure hope that I am making sense!
Once you have it all rolled up, you will want to secure it with some tape. Set it aside until it dries completely. Make sure to pay attention to the end of the noodle. If it separates then the whole thing will come apart. Been there and done that!
Next step is to grab a pair of scissors and create a hole into the noodle. You want to make it deep enough to allow the wooden dowel to get a good grip and be deep enough to hold the noodle stable.
Now you are going to grab your cellophane and create a wrapper for your lollipop. I just wrapped it like a package. There is no special way to do it. Just go for it!
I used a pipe cleaner to secure the ends of the paper. Now just grab your favorite ribbon make a bow. No judging my bow making skills or lack there of! 😂
This is totally optional, but I ended up painting over all that writing stuff on my PVC pipe. I just grabbed whatever white paint that I had on hand and added a couple of coats. Probably a good idea to do at the beginning of the project.
Now just insert your wooden dowel through the PVC pipe and VOILA… you have the most adorable lollipop!
Seriously, how fun and adorable are these?
I hope that you all enjoyed this project and I hope it has inspired you to get out and CREATE MAKE AND DECORATE some for your home. I’d love to know what you think, so feel free to leave a comment below!
Happy creating,
Nikki
